So, It’s Bush’s Baby Now?

You know what’s funy about this paragraph?

BOSTON (Reuters) – President George W. Bush’s No Child Left Behind education policy has in some cases benefited white middle-class children over blacks and other minorities in poorer regions, a Harvard University study showed on Tuesday.

What’s funny is that NCLB is always identified as belonging to the President. Reporters always seem to forget that Senator Ted Kennedy worked with the President – indeed was just as public as Bush – to get the legislation passed and to convince all of us that we really, really needed another government education program.

It’s funny because in the first days of President Bush’s administration (you know, the one that’s so horribly divisive and has split our country in twain and all that), NCLB was a major instance of the President reaching across the political divide and working with a prominent Democrat.

Of course, it took exactly one a Teddysecond (the measure of time that falls between a nanosecond and a picosecond and measures how long it will take a formerly-cooperative and genial Democratic member of Congress to turn and savage the President in the press) for him to blast the President for not spending enough money and dooming our children to a dim future of picking fruit and landscaping.

Of course, in the media’s mind, what’s past is, well not quite prologue is it? The past is more along the lines of “completely forgotten”, unless you happen to be the President. In that case, you own everything you do, no matter how far back, even if they have to kind of make things up *coughMaryMapescough*.

Ah well.
