Based on Google’s decision to help China repress the free expression of ideas to and from its people, I’ve decided to pull the Google AdSense advertisements from my blog.
I realize this isn’t much of a drop in the bucket for Google and not a great sacrifice on my part. Heck, the ads haven’t made me a ten spot in the whole time I’ve had them.
It’s a place for me to start, though.
I was inspired by similar actions today by Clayton Cramer and David Pinto.
UPDATE: It’s nice to see that we’re far from the only ones. Pajamas Media has a growing roundup of Google backlash, including several others who are pulling out of the AdSense program. Dean Esmay is going two better, refusing to use Google for web searches and seeking out alternatives to his Gmail account.
I’ll ask the same questions he’s asking, what search engines are comparable to Google, Yahoo, and whatever Microsoft is using? Is Alta Vista the best of the rest?
I’m pretty loathe to shift all my e-mails from Gmail, but I will if I must. Any suggestions there?
UPDATE: Michelle Malkin has some great new Google logos, and links to others who have decided not to use China’s New Oppression Company.

Cheers! And thanks for the link!
I think it was an excellent thing to do. I hope that more bloggers decide to drop the AdSense service entirely. Perhaps when Google sees their hit count falling off the table, they’ll pay some attention.
Remember, it’s not enough to not be evil. You can’t have your hands shoved into evil’s bank account either.
great idea..every little drop counts. I’ll be stopping my adwords account with them.
