Osama’s Book Club

Here’s someone I would not hesitate to call unpatriotic and anti-American.

Twenty-four hours after Osama bin Laden told the world that the American people should read the work of a little-known Washington historian, William Blum was still adjusting.

Blum, who at 72 is accustomed to laboring in relative left-wing obscurity, checked his emotions and pronounced himself shocked and, well, pleased.

“This is almost as good as being an Oprah book,” he said yesterday between telephone calls from the world media and bites of a bagel. “I’m glad.” Overnight, his 2000 work, “Rogue State: A Guide to the World’s Only Superpower,” had become an Osama book.

“I was not turned off by such an endorsement,” he informed a New York radio station. “I’m not repulsed, and I’m not going to pretend I am.” He patiently reiterated the thesis of his foreign-policy critique — that American interventions abroad create enemies.

Though he’s sure to note that he deplores the 9/11 attacks, he’s completely copacetic with why the murdering bastards launched them.

It’s just another chorus of “it’s all our fault” from another preening progressive who seems to have learned far less from history than he believes he has.

I sincerely hope his face is noted far and wide and that he finds no peace from his neighbors for taking such pleasure in an endorsement from our sworn enemy in the middle of a war. I’d actually go one better. I’d call him a treasonous hypocrite for seeking to damage this country while basking in all the liberty and opportunity it has to offer. If he truly despises this country to the point where his life’s work is “injuring the beast”, then I say without hesitating that he ought to leave right away and stop soaking up the poisoned fruits the beast gives him without reservation.
