What a maroon. What a ta-ra-ra-Goon-dee-ay.

The Reverend Pat Robertson says Prime Minister Ariel Sharon’s massive stroke could be God’s punishment for giving up Israeli territory.

The founder of the Christian Broadcasting Network told viewers of “The 700 Club” that Sharon was “dividing God’s land,” even though the Bible says doing so invites “God’s enmity.”

Robertson added, “I would say woe to any prime minister of Israel who takes a similar course.”

He noted that former Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin was assassinated.

Robertson said God’s message is, “This land belongs to me. You’d better leave it alone.”

Oh, please.

First of all, if I were King for a Day, I’d pass an edict that Pat Robertson never be quoted as an expert on any subject and certainly not religion. The guy’s read of the Bible is flawed in ways I can’t even begin to describe. Nearly every time he opens his mouth, I find myself having to defend Christianity in general to people who thinks this guy is some sort of revered and listened-to religious figure among believers.

Second…well…it’s kind of like the first one. Pat Robertson is a televangelist. That’s it. He’s not a pastor because he heads no local church. He has no flock. He’s no different than Ernest Angely or that guy who has the Crystal Cathedral, except that he has a better suit and a more slick presentation. He’s a money-grubbing hindrance to God’s work and I’m sure that when he faces His judgement, he’s going to have much to answer for.

As a side note, why is this apparent news while I’ve heard little to nothing about BET’s naming of Minister Louis Farrakhan as their 2005 Person of the Year? Isn’t Farakhan a religious figure with a vast international audience? Doesn’t he command an audience at least as vast as Roberton’s? Doesn’t he purport to speak not only for God but for a large chunk of Americans? Hasn’t he been extremely active in the political realm? I’d say that his being lauded by a channel founded by perhaps the most successful black entrepreneur in the country that considers it’s target audience every black person in the world might just be news.

But maybe not.
