So, South Dakota, through a combination of laws and social stigma has managed to make abortion “safe, legal, and rare”.

The Washington Post thinks that’s a bad thing. At least that’s the impression I get, given the extensive quotes from the Planned Parenthood and NARAL representatives, and the series of sob stories from women who had to go several hundred miles to get an abortion at the only place in the state where a doctor will perform one.

This article is more a lament that more abortions are being performed then it is a news story about how a state has worked within the boundaries of Roe Vs. Wade to minimize the number of abortions performed there. It seems that South Dakota has actually managed to make abortions “safe, legal and rare”, which always seems to be the stated goal of abortion supporters.

I can’t help but wonder, reading this article, if that’s really their goal, though.
