Merry Christmas!

And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.
And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.
And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.
For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.
And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.
And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,
Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.
I wanted to leave everyone with this simple message from the angel to the shepherds: Fear Not.
Yes, we fight a terrible enemy who seeks our destruction and who kills without conscience, but Fear Not.
Yes, we live in a world where it seems that the crass and crude threatens to insinuate itself everywhere, but Fear Not.
Yes, there is trial and tribulation and the unfairness of life all around, but Fear Not.
Yes, the political discourse gets so rancorous that you want to plug your ears and never listen to it again, but Fear Not.
Yes, it seems sometimes like the world is going to hell in a handbasket, but Fear Not.
Why?
Because this world need not be our final destination. Because God gave us a gift beyond all telling, a gift that we did not deserve, indeed could never deserve even if we dedicated a thousand lifetimes to earning it. Because simply by accepting that gift, we have a a glorious Heavenly home waiting for us. Because God loved us enough to send us the only Son he had. For us.
Because of all that Jesus’ birth means to us on this earth, we need Fear Not.
But even if you’re not of the Christian persuasion, the angel’s message is still appropriate. There is good news to be had. There are bright shining places, even here, from which you can gain hope and a stronger spirit. Simply Fear Not.
Merry Christmas everyone. I hope your holidays are filled with all the love and joy you could ever want.
