Today is the 64th Anniversary of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor.
Sixty-Four years ago today, 2,403 Americans were killed by an attack from an enemy who we did not attack and who sought only our destruction and subjugation. That attack began our full involvement in World War II, a war which clained tens of thousands of our soldier’s lives, saved the world from tyranny, and ended the attempted genocide of several peoples.
How did Pat Oliphant, world-reknown political cartoonist, decide to commemorate today?
By drawing this wretched piece of work.
That’s right. He chose today to draw a cartoon in which he not only compared George Bush to Adolph Hitler, but said that Bush would be happy to become Hitler.
I’m entirely disgusted at the crass disregard not only for history, but for the memories of the millions who suffered because of Adolph Hitler. There are still people alive today who were very nearly butchered by that man and Pat Oliphant has chosen to spit right in their faces.
He’s also chosen to spit in the faces of the record number of Americans who voted for George Bush by saying that we all willingly voted for a genocidal maniac.
That’s what he thinks of you, folks. You’re no better than the people of Germany who cheerfully voted in Adolph Hitler and allowed him to murder and pillage and conquer in their name.
The sad thing is, were he to read this, he’d have no idea why I was angry at ihs cartoon and why I thought him so contemptible.
That doesn’t excuse him, though. It just makes him pitiable.
