Mohammed, Larry, and Curly.

Okay, first the serious part:

Attackers in the Red Sea port city of Aqaba, Jordan Friday, fired three rockets at U.S. war ships anchored nearby, missing their apparent targets, but killing a Jordanian soldier on land.

Reports said two of the rockets hit a hospital and warehouse in Jordan, while a third struck next to an airport in the nearby Israeli port city of Eilat. A Jordanian soldier on guard duty at the warehouse was killed by the blast, which left an 8-foot hole in the roof of the building. The warehouse is reportedly used to store U.S. supplies en route to Iraq.

Yep, there are still terrorists out there and they want to kill us. Luckily, this one seems to have been pulled off by the Islamist equivalent of the Three Stooges. Call them Mohammed, Larry, and Curly. Perhaps next time they let fly with rockets, one of them will double back and blow them to That Great 72 Virgin Pie Fight in the Sky.

Now for the media criticism. Hey, NewsHour guys? It’s okay to call them terrorists isntead of “attackers”. It’s what they are.

And now for the laughing and pointing.

These guys launched three unguided rockets at American warships. The one rocket that hit something left an 8-foot hole in a warehouse roof. Now, I’m no shipbuilder, but I have to imagine that a warship is just the teensiest bit better armored than the average Jordanian warehouse. What sort of damage, exactly, was this rocket going to inflict on the USS Ashland or the USS Kearsage, assuming it got through both ships’ Phalanx systems?

Not much, I’ll wager. I wouldn’t think the ship would even rock very much. I could be wrong about that, but looking at a warship and looking at a warehouse, I’m pretty sure it would have made a nice “tink” sound, and that’s about it.

Great mission planning, guys. What’s next, shooting paper clips with rubber bands at the American Embassy?

Next, how about that press release, huh? Let’s take a look at it:

A group calling itself Abdullah al-Azzam Brigades of the al Qaeda Organization in the Levant and Egypt claimed responsibility for the attack in a Web site posting. The Levant is a historical name for a region that includes Syria, Lebanon, Israel, Palestinian territories and Jordan.

“A group of our holy warriors … targeted a gathering of American military ships docking in Aqaba port and also in Eilat port with three Katyusha rockets and the warriors returned safe to their headquarters,” the group’s statement said.

Basically, the press release says “Praise Allah! We have shot at the Americans and none of us died!”.

How low have we brought al-Qaeda that the best they can do is to say that they attacked the Americans and lived to issue a press release?

I understand that one of the terrorists was quoted as saying “Why you…I oughta!” to one of his compatriots whose only reply was “Nyuk! Nyuk! Nyuk!”
