Depak Chopra deals in the world of non linear spiritual and philosophical concepts. As a lifetime linear thinker and pragmatist I wouldn't try to compare Depak's philosophy with those world views that surrender the sorry state of the world, as it currently exists, as a core operant reality that can never be evolved. All the man is trying to do is bring awareness to a world that, for the most part, is convinced that the status quo, warfare, violence, consternation and negativity, are unchangeable paradigms. The fact that it is difficult to follow at times does not make it new age gibberish . . . simply unfamiliar territory to those steeped in a Newtonian approach to reality.

Well, its always easy to slam those ideas and expressions that require you to step outside your hardened ideals. I think this is a prominent feature of "New Age" thinking and the reason for its great attraction. You get the feelings of superiority without having to get into the down and dirty of sacrificing for your beliefs.

Those who adore such a mass of words that mean nothing are in love with feelings and the workings of their own consciousness to such an extent that they seek a way to elude all outside constraints.

I think this is a prominent feature of "New Age" thinking and the reason for its great attraction. People like Chopra, or the others I mentioned in the post before that, really don't seem to find anything worth fighting for. I am concerned, lately, that what we're fed every day through our media outlets carry that same message.
Could it be that the message that there really isn't anything worth fighting for (and if our very way of life isn't worht fighting for, what is?) has permated our thoughts that much?

Thanks, Erich. (As a personal aside, it seems to me that Chopra's writing frequently comes off as being translated from some other language, where the definitions of words like "peace" don't have any direct analog in English.) Regardless, I agree with Grace--don't waste your time on Chopra; even most of the Left is aware that he's discussing philosophy, not policy.
We'd all like to live in a world at peace, and if we all agreed that war and conflict were the worst thing in the world, then indeed, we could achieve that goal. Most of us don't think that--yes, even among the liberals, you've got to be pretty far out on the fringe to think that there's nothing worse than fighting--in other words, that nothing is worth fighting for. Don't worry about those people; there's an inherent contradiction in their thought, that will always prevent them from taking action....
Much as you liked War of the Worlds, this particular passage is more reminiscent of another Wells classic--Chopra's philosophy in this passage is perfect for Eloi.

Right you are to complain about Chopra getting ink on HufflePuff–assuming that the blog's orientation is political, as it surely seems to be. Still, it does rankle that a triplespeaker lik Chopra gets huge ink on a place like the HufflePuff Blog while other, far more worthy, writers have to hack out their own audience. I"m not talking about myself. I'm content to hack.
Friedman - I'm not really sure what I think of him half the time.

Grace – whatever would I do without you? <img

My Jimmie is quoting Depak Chopra on The Shack. The Rapture must be nigh.
It wasn't worth the bandwidth, dear friend. Depak is far below you.
Now taking on Thomas Friedman, that's your action, my dear. In writing this, I'm handing over the left's best guy.
Just looking out for you, with love from The Loyal Opposition.

No. I'm haluucinating. I ingested crack and didn't know it. My wife, save her liberal soul, could not read this and draw the obvious parallels between Bush and FDR. Simply put, what I see is an FDR that would be a Republican today! I will have to draw the parallels for her. Thank you for the links to FDR's addresses. We must not concede to the tactical efforts of terrorism ("Leave the Middle East and achieve peace") without seeing the strategic goals of terrorism, to enslave the Middle East in Muslim theocracies, destroy Israel, and wage war on all "infidels" from inside and out!

Jamie, thank you.
