Yet Another Koran Story (or, Whose Side are They On?)

| June 4, 2005

You know something? I’m sick and tired of all the Koran abuse stories. The Washington Post has yet another in a series of articles attacking the prisoner camp at Guantanamo Bay and this time, the headline (and subhead) is so inconsequential, it’s actually laughable.

Pentagon Details Abuse Of Koran
Detainees’ Holy Books Were Kicked, Got Wet

Kicked, you say? Got wet, you say?

Well, we might just as well lie down and freaking die, then, huh?

Here’s the tally. We’ve handed out about 1600 copies of the Koran since 2002. We’ve confirmed the Koran was “desecrated” five times.

Five out of 1600.

On the other hand, we’ve confirmed that Muslim detainees, who hold the Koran holy and sacred and worth rioting and killing over, have “desecrated” their own book 15 times.

Fifteen out of 1600.

What, may I ask, is the big freaking deal here? Why is this story on the front page of the Washington Post? And why is our supposed desecration leading the story when the detainees’ have committed three times as many defiling acts as our personnel have?

Let’s really look at what’s happening here. These people who are in Guantanamo Bay were trying to kill us and our soldiers before we captured them. We are now quibbling over whether we are, in the words of a lawyer representing some of the detainees, engaging in “religious discrimination” against them.

Murder alleged by the people who had the guns and bombs aimed at them vs. religious discrimination alleged by people who are trained to tell exactly this sort of lie.

What in the hell is going on in our country?

If you really want to know how picayune the whole flap has gotten, you ought to read Michelle Malkin’s post on this new story, and stories just like it.

I, personally, am sick and tired of these stories. I used to think that the people who mount a full-throated condemnation of the United States every time a person looked askance as a Muslim or a Koran was just misguided. Now, I look at them completely differently. I look at them as impediments. I look at them as unpatriotic. I look at them as obstacles to overcome in order to win a war we should be fighting with all our strength and vigor. I look at them as being in league with the terrorists and, right now, I don’t particularly care why. It’s their choice. Defend a country where even the most trifling accusation gets a full investigation and a detailed report or defend the people wh routinely murder women, children, and other innocents.

They’ve chosen their side. I want them help accountable for it.
