Meme-Tagged.

Well, Gennie has violated the age-old rule of “no tagbacks” and set her own meme upon me. But I’m a good guy, so I’m going to overlook this technical violation and give her a good answer.

Total Volume Of Music On My Computer: I’d say about 300 MB right now. I have another eight or so CDs filled with mp3′s also, but I don’t think that counts. Anyone want to buy me one of those nice portable mp3 players? I’d be ever so grateful!

The Last CD I Bought Was: I havan’t bought a CD for a couple months. I believe the past one I picked up was Chanticleer’s “A Portrait”.

Five Songs I Listen To A Lot, or Mean A Lot To Me:
1) Eric Whitacre’s “When David Heard” – It is a perfect example of how to write heartrending music using only a few words. It’s a 15-minute choral piece that travels from shock to abject sorrow to muted acceptance. It’s the finest piece Whitacre has ever done, in my opinion.
2) Stevie Wonder’s “I Wish” – Simply the best rhythm groove in pop music, ever. Stevie’s vocals are teasing, driving, and smooth at various points. I wish that everyone who has ever, or will ever, compete on “American Idol” could spend a week really listening to Stevie Wonder. They’d learn how to really be a singer.
3) Sara Evans’ “Born to Fly” – Sara is the best alto voice in country music and as beautiful as they come. This is a song that, though it’s written from the female point of view, captures where I want to go and how I want to get there.
4) Duran Duran’s “The Reflex” – No song summons memories of the 80s and my misspent musical life as a teenager better than this one. The lyrics make no sense, the song is synth-heavy, and Simon LeBon’s singing is nothing special. Yet it’s a great song.
5) Etta James’ “At Last” – Wow. Simply wow. Anyone who ever wants to sing in front of people needs to spend hours with this song. The song itself, and the way Etta sings it gives me shivers every single time.

Who’s going to get tagged with this meme: Why it’s Robbie and The Anchoress!

  1. Gennie says:

What is this rule that you speak of? ;) Hehe. You can't deny me or my trackbacks Jimmy. Just give it up.

  2. Jimmie says:

Yeah, you know that and I know that, but do you have to use it so? ;)

  3. Jimmie says:

Yeah, well, that genie is out of the bottle, man. No way you could get it back in there.

  4. Robbie says:

By the way, I've got a contest going (with no judges or prize) for which I think you're quite suited.

  5. Jimmie says:

I entered it with an alternate selection. ;)

  6. I’m It Again?
immie felt the need to break the rules and tag me back with a meme. (Jimmie, any good political pundit knows that precedent is not always a good excuse.) The only reason I’m doing this one is because it’s musical in nature … that and Jimmie could p…
