What I get from that piece is Seth McFarlands anti-conservative views as a central theme, probably developed because of his disdain for George Bush. My point is that he seems more driven by bashing and ridiculing conservatism than being funny. It is possible to do both. Also, he is trying to take a format and character lines from Family Guy and trying to make it work in American Dad. There is very little originality.
