Excelsior!

Today was a big day. We may not recognize it now, but today was important.

Today was the day that SpaceShipOne won the Ansari X Prize. They are now ten million dollars richer.

But it’s not the prize money that made this day important. It’s not even the deal that the group has struck with Richard Branson to license 5 similar ships to take people on commercial spaceflights that made this day important.

What made this day important is the proof that private money, private industry, and private will can take people into outer space more easily and more efficiently than our government can. It showed us that space does indeed belong to us and that we can reach it, if we only try and our government gets out of our way.

Gret job guys. You made history.
