Quick Media Bias Quiz

Here’s the first paragraph from a Washington POst story today on the “fallout” from Senator Zell Miller’s speech Wednesday night. Tell me which way you think the story’s going to lean.

First, here’s the headline: “Fallout From Democrat’s Address Still Unknown”

Now the first paragraph:

Sen. Zell Miller, apostate Democrat from Georgia, was the talk of the town here among (mostly) adoring delegates at the Republican National Convention on Thursday.

Do you expect that this article will be objective from that paragraph? Do you think that calling someone an “apostate” four words into a news article might just slant it the eensiest, weensiest bit?

Do reporters really not see they bias they’re writing into news reports or do they simply not care?
