Hey! Two Papers in the Game

Finally – FINALLY! – the New York Times covers the Swift Boat Veterans’ allegations against John Kerry. Man, these reporters really did some digging…

…into the Swift Boat Veterans’ organization itself.

The entire first half talks about how John O’Neill, a successful Texas lawyer with a large law practice, represented people who know successful Texas politicians George W Bush and Karl Rove. The evil Web O’Republican Conspiracy has been woven.

Never mind that O’Neill isn’t a Republican. Never mind that he didn’t even vote for George Bush. Never mind that it is impossible to be a successful lawyer in any state without representing people who know powerful political people. Never mind all that.

Where the hell is the analysis of the SBV’s book, or even any one accusation?

Oh there they are, jammed into five or so paragraphs at the end and boiled down to “he said, they said” snippets. It’s not like there’s a book with sources and stuff out there to study or anything.

And “Christmas in Cambodia”? All the way at the end. One paragraph. No mention at all that Kerry’s actually changed his story now.

After this and the Washington Post article yesterday, it’s obvious that the major media is flacking for Kerry. They’re not even bothering to hide it.

    The Birth–and, perhaps, death?–of an Anti-Kerry Ad
The New York Times has an article on the Swift Boat Veterans sure to propogate around the blogosphere in short order today. Kerry supporters will write–not unreasonably–that it is a vindication of Kerry, and a refutal of the Swift Boat…
